September 24 - Start Amistad (Sub Day)

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Once again I am happy you are here but lament my own absence.  I hope that all you beautiful people are doing wonderfully without me.  I look forward to seeing you all again on Thursday!  Today in class we will be starting a film about a significant early Supreme Court Case that dealt with slavery that sadly many Americans have forgotten.  It is a great movie (although a little intense at times) and I hope that you all enjoy watching it today!  We will not finish it today but will finish it after the break!  Unfortunately we have too much to do on Thursday so we will have to postpone the film's brilliant ending.  Let's get to it!  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

Objectives:
  1. Analyze the events depicted in the film Amistad and how they illustrate the problems or slavery in early 19th century America
Agenda:
  1. Warm-Up #2
  2. Start Amistad
Homework:
  1. Chapter 9 Quiz Thursday
  2. Fall Break NEXT WEEK!
  3. First Research Paper due October 14
  4. Outside Reading Project due December 6
  5. APUSH Exam May 8
    1. Apply for Fee reduction (see below from Mr. Park)
      1. San Jose Unified School District is continuing with its AP test fee reduction program this year. Regardless of income, if the nutrition application is filled out by 9/25/19, the AP exam will be reduced to $5 per test. This is a yearly application; thus, families must fill this out every year. To access the application, go to https://nutrition.sjusd.org. Once again, the deadline is 9/25/19.
That's all for the day folks!  I hope that everyone is doing well!  I am excited to see you all again after so many days apart!  Take care and have a beautiful rest of your day!

Live long and prosper,

Mr. Marchetti
