January 29

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class we took our Chapter 21 quiz and discussed America's involvement in World War I.  We reviewed M.A.N.I.A. (Militarism, Alliances, Nationalism, Imperialism, & Assassination) and how it is a useful tool to remember the causes of World War I in Europe.  We also discussed briefly what events led the United States to finally enter the war in 1917.

After our discussion and quiz you had time in your groups to work on the DBQ activity.  you should at this point be done with the Document Analysis worksheets and be ready to write (if you have not already started) your group essay.  You will get some time to do so on Monday and then I will be collecting them.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Live long and prosper,

Mr. Marchetti

PS - Don't forget that your Unit 6 Outside Essays are due on Monday!!!

Outside Essay Rubric
(Please be advised that this semester I will be very tough in regards to following the rubric.  I expect proper source citations and formatting otherwise you will not receive the appropriate rubric score)

Don't forget that you must use the appropriate Chicago style formatting:

Also remember that you need to use credible academic sources.  Good places to start are:

Google Scholar
Avoid .com sources --> .edu & .org are much more credible.

Today in class we discussed American Imperialism and the Spanish American War.  After we finished our discussion you broke into small groups and began analyzing part of a DBQ.  You will be finishing your document analysis on Thursday and writing a joint practice essay together.  The key to writing a good DBQ is the document analysis and integration into your essay.

Here are the worksheets you need in class today and Thursday:

January 13

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class we finished our lecture on urbanization.  After that we worked with partners to research and discuss the Populist and Progressive movements.  You should have worked with your 12 o'clock partner and split the work so that one of you researched the Populists and one of you researched the Progressives.  After you have done your individual research you need to collaborate and share your work to answer the comparison questions.  You will need to do some research on both movements in order to fully understand and answer the questions.

January 8

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

It was great to see you today.  In class we started out with our Chapter 18 Quiz (don't forget that most quizzes from now on are on Thursdays).  After our quiz we continued looking at Turner's Frontier Thesis and worked on writing an effective thesis statement.  Remember that this semester we will be focusing on writing a good thesis and supporting it.  I am going to be far more tough when grading your papers, looking for a strong thesis.

Don't forget that the Frederick Jackson Turner Activity is due on Monday.  I will be checking your Thesis statements and feedback!

We finished class today by talking about the growth of cities and professional sports at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th.

I look forward to seeing you all next week!  Have a great weekend!

Mr. Marchetti

2nd Semester Updates

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

It was wonderful seeing you all today in class after our vacation.  I just wanted to post some of the 2nd Semester updates that we discussed in class so you can reference them as needed.

First - Don't forget that the APUSH Exam is Friday, May 8.
That means we must complete our studies prior to this date and have some time to review.

Second - There are TWO Outside Reading Assignments that are required this semester.  The directions, worksheet, and book list can be found on the Drive.  You may turn these assignments into me any time before May 1.

Third - You must attempt and complete the Presidents Quiz by May 1, this quiz is worth 20 Extra Credit point.
Must list the presidents in order and include: 1) name of each president; 2) Years he was president; 3) Political Party affiliation.
If you fail to attempt and complete the Presidents quiz you will receive a Missing Score (out of 50) in the Gradebook.

Fourth - We will be doing a semester long Theme Project
You will be working in groups to map out the history of the United States according to one of the seven themes.  More details will be provided later.

Fifth - I will be providing AP Review Sessions 1-2 times a week (starting at the end of January) during Tutorial to help you prepare for the AP Exam.  We will be reviewing content and skills that will help in succeeding on the AP Exam.

Second Semester has a lot of stuff to accomplish.  Keep up the good work!
