Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class we will be wrapping up our discussion of Frederick Jackson Turner and his Frontier Thesis, as well as taking our Chapter 17 Quiz.  Turner and his Thesis are pretty important to this era of history and also important to understanding our modern identity in the United States.  Hope you all enjoy it as much as I do!!!  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

Objectives:
  1. Demonstrate content knowledge about the U.S. economy of the late 1800s from the perspectives of both the laborers and the owners of corporations
  2. Analyze Turner's Frontier Thesis through review of guided questioning and group discussion

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!  Its great to see you all again!  Today in class we will be watching videos on our Chromebooks and answering some questions about Frederick Jackson Turner's Frontier Thesis.  He was an important American Historian from the late 19th century and his frontier thesis is an interesting topic to check out and discuss.  It also is fascinating to reflect on how his thesis may or may not apply to the world today.  We will continue discussing the Thesis on Wednesday.  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

Today in class we will be discussing Reconstruction in the American South.  We will be doing this through a Structured Academic Conversation (SAC), which will involve some research and analysis ahead of time.  The actual SAC will take place on Friday, today we will be doing the preparation.  Reconstruction is a complicated but very interesting topic so if something is confusing please let me know and I will do my best to help you!  I love this stuff!!!!  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

  1. Discuss the Reconstruction era through the examination of documents and the use of a Structured Academic Conversation

Homework:
  1. Emancipation Proclamation Assignment
    1. For the Emancipation Readings, please do the following:
      1. Read the documents
      2. Summarize the documents in your own works (3-5 sentences for each reading)
      1. Determine the purpose(s) of the Emancipation Proclamation and the intentions of Lincoln regarding abolition based on the documents
        1. In your unit pack you will submit a paper that has 3 summaries and the answer to that last question!
        2. I will stamp these on Thursday, so please do it!!!

Its the day after the election!  Wow that was crazy don't you think?  I wonder who won...(I'm writing this Tuesday afternoon hehe)...  Today we will spend some time examining the Civil War in closer detail.  We will be discussing the War and also working on a guided notes sheet that you will be completing, printing, and turning in with the Unit Pack.  This is my favorite topic so I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do!  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

It is wonderful to see you all again!  I hope that everyone is doing well and is ready to start Unit 5!  This will be a relatively short unit, but it is one of the most important topics in U.S. history (and one of my favorites!), the American Civil War!  Today in class we will introducing and previewing Unit 5 as well as discussing the concept of Manifest Destiny and American Exceptionalism.  Understanding Manifest Destiny is a key part of understanding the pathway to the Civil War.  I can't wait!  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.
