November 29 - Finish FJT and Chapter 17 Quiz

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class we will be finishing the Frederick Jackson Turner discussion on the "Frontier Thesis", we will also be taking our Chapter 17 Quiz.  Its great to see you all today!  I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Turner and the Frontier!  This is one of my favorite parts of this era's history!  Let's do this!  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

November 27 - FJT Frontier Thesis

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Welcome back from our long weekend!  I hope that you all had a restful Thanksgiving!  It is wonderful to see you all again!  Today in class we will be discussing the concept of the frontier and an important 19th century American historian, Frederick Jackson Turner.  This is a bit of an historiography lesson as well as a history lesson.  The concept of the frontier is important for the late 19th century and the impact of its "closing" is equally significant to the landscape of modern America!  I love this stuff!  I hope that you can find it within yourselves to enjoy it as much as I do! 😀.  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

November 20 - Unit 5 Exam and Intro Unit 6

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class we will be taking our Unit 5 Exam, which is a DBQ (our first!) and then we will preview Unit 6 (our last for the semester!).  The DBQ is a significant portion of the AP Exam so really do your best to figure it out.  I think it is the easier of the two essays you write on the exam because you are given documents.  You all have the skills necessary to do well!  I can't wait to read them!  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

November 15 - SAC Reconstruction

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

Today in class we will be starting a document analysis that will then lead to a Structured Academic Conversation.  Reconstruction is a difficult and confusing period in U.S. history so it is important and valuable that you try your best to wrestle with the concepts and events.  Do your best!  I know you have it in you all.  Below you will find our agenda, homework, and resources for the day.

Objectives:
  1. Discuss the reconstruction era through examination of documents and the use of a Structured Academic Conversation

  2. Start SAC Reconstruction (Make a copy of this file)
    1. Read and Discuss: Reconstruction Documents
      1. ALL Documents / Original Documents
    2. Research Outside Evidence
Homework:
  1. Emancipation Proclamation Homework (See last slide and blog post for details!)
    1. For the Emancipation Readings, please do the following:
      1. Read the documents
      2. Summarize the documents in your own works (3-5 sentences for each reading)
      3. Determine the purpose(s) of the Emancipation Proclamation and the intentions of Lincoln regarding abolition based on the documents
        1. In your unit pack you will submit a paper that has 3 summaries and the answer to that last question!
        2. I will stamp these on Friday, so please do it!!!
  2. Unit 5 DBQ Exam on Monday!
